What really Drives Google Search?

There are millions of websites spread across the web. Every day you will find hundreds of new websites entering the web space and it becomes more and more difficult to find the ones that are genuine and really valuable. The task of Search Engines like Google has been piled up on a daily basis. Imagine that you query for ‘Treatments on migraine’ and Google comes up with ‘What is Migraine?’ at the top of search results. Now that could really piss you off. That’s why search engines really need to keep up with the ever increasing number of websites and provide you the most valuable search results matching your search criteria. Search Engines have crawlers or spiders that navigate across websites and index various web pages based on relevance and usage of keywords. Relevance is the key as that creates value. Density of keywords is a means of establishing relevance. The current algorithms check both aspects. The appearance of keywords in a web page will be evaluated by the search engine. You can’t just stuff it as much as you like. You need make it sectional or paragraph-wise. More weight is given to web pages that have keywords in their title. The age of particular website and the strength of a domain play a very important role in determining the rank of a website. There are many websites which direct you to some another web page for its content. Google algorithms are designed to keep such websites out of search. Today, the reputation of your website on social networking is another parameter that drives the search engine algorithms. The number of distinct users liking and sharing your website improves the websites page rank on Google. The sharing and liking is a measure of the website’s authority on the web. So there is a good weightage assigned to it. Google consistently updates it’s algorithms to get the best for its users. There is something called as featured ads on Google. This is for those sites that need to market themselves to the top of the search results for a specific location. They are willing to pay Google to be at the top. However, if there are multiple players willing to pay for the same keywords then the web page with rich content will get priority. Featured ads are a means of generating more business for Google. The main goal of Google is to give best possible search results to its users. http://expertscolumn.com/content/do-panda-and-penguin-updates-provide-real-justice-web-pages http://expertscolumn.com/content/how-market-your-website-or-blog-post-penguin-updates http://expertscolumn.com/content/power-guest-posts

How to choose a laptop

You need to evaluate your actual needs before you buy a laptop. Most of us really don’t need high end models but still want to buy high performing expensive models. The problem is that whenever you go to a store the dealer will market the amazing features of his most costly models. People tend to get influenced by that and don’t realise the marketing stunt. Before buying any laptop, make sure what exactly you want and select your model first by browsing over the net. Never go to a store and then make a choice. Chances are that you would get something that you never needed.

So what are the factors that you need to consider before buying your laptop? First and foremost is the processor and its configuration. Don’t go for Mac just because someone said it has some classy features. Answer a basic question first. Do you know how to operate Mac? Are you really comfortable on Mac operating system? If yes then think about it. If not, then go with Intel Pentium or other processors that you are comfortable with. Which processor configuration suits you? Are you going to do high end processing and transactions? If not then choose something that suits your needs better. If Pentium 4 has everything that you need then there is no need to go for Pentium 6 just because someone said that you always need to have the latest laptop configuration. That’s all crap.

What are your memory requirements? Are you going to develop something on your laptop or its going to be used as a personal laptop for surfing and documentation? If you are going to do the later then probably something like 2 GB RAM should be sufficient for you. I have 1 GB RAM and even that works well. Most of the times, we don’t use features like Bluetooth in a laptop. If a laptop has everything except Bluetooth then you must still consider it.

Do you really need a camera in the laptop? Not unless you are going to do video chatting. Even if you do, make your choice reasonable. You really don’t need high end cameras in laptop. You might need them in your digicam. Understand that a laptop is not a digicam.

How much hard disk size do you need? If you are going to store a lot of movies or other heavy software then you would need 80 or 160 GB hard disk. Make sure your hard disk goes seamlessly with your RAM and processor configuration.

Just don’t buy a laptop because someone said you need to have all these features. First check if you really need them and then make a choice.

Tips to buy a digicam

Who doesn’t want to have a digital camera with top-notch picture quality? Pictures are timeless and they provide the true essence to our life. After a few years when we see these pictures it should really have the charm that it used to have a few years back. How to choose a digital camera that will provide you best quality images and make your photos immortal?

Here are some of my tips that will help you select a great digicam:
You will need to select a camera with high image resolution. Higher number of pixels of a camera helps to produce better quality images. But just having a higher mega pixel count is not sufficient. Your camera needs to have a high spatial resolution as well. Most of the times my friends complain that their camera has the highest mega pixel and spatial resolution yet the clarity of the images in not up to the mark. These are not the only 2 elements that need to be considered, you need to check the sensor size and quality of the lens as well. People tend to miss the lens completely while selecting a digicam. Your camera can have the best pixel count but if it doesn’t have a high quality lens then it’s no good. You also need to verify what level of optical zoom your camera supports.

Understand the different aspect ratios supported by your digicam and then check the sensor size. Some of these sensor sizes are best tuned to specific aspect ratios. You need to have that knowledge before using your digital camera. What type of digicam do you need? Some people might prefer a compact digicam, some might prefer to have a bridge camera or a single lens reflex camera while most professional photographers might prefer high-end Digital SLRS. It all depends on your choice and type of photos you are going to shoot. I personally prefer the compact cameras for outdoor shooting and still photography. I personally find it quite stable and easy to use.

I also have a waterproof camera that helps me to shoot high quality images under water. But unfortunately, I never had an opportunity to shoot with this expensive camera.

So, before you select your digicam always make sure what you are expecting out of it.

Internet Marketing - Panda and Penguin updates

Growing importance of search engines in the area of Internet marketing has mandated the need for ranking websites. Obviously, Google is considered as God when it comes to search engines and any traffic that comes to your website is probably due to the blessings of Google. Now, Google has become such a big market catalyst that it needs to define its own standards and rules when it comes to ranking different websites. Penguin and Panda have contributed towards filtering the web content in a more sophisticated manner. I remember 7-8 years ago when web marketing had not really clicked we could get any website in the top search results. However, today that’s not the case. Penguin and Panda has purified the content in a major way.

Have the Penguin and Panda updates done true justice to web marketing? Probably yes to major extent. At least the concepts that these Algorithms are based on appear quite clear and concise. The concept of Panda took into consideration the total value of a website. If your website has a great design, excellent speed and the users can really vouch on the repeat value of the website then Google panda will assist such sites by bringing them to the top. But hold on, that’s just not enough. Google Penguin provided a much stricter algorithm to verify uniqueness, authentic backlinking and efficient social networking usage. Are there any loopholes with the algorithms? We really don’t know. The fact is that nearly more than 15% search results have been impacted.

Now, I am quite cynical on the philosophy of completely ridiculing some websites instead of just the web pages. Some badly written web pages don’t mean that all web pages on the site will be bad. Google Panda has probably ridiculed quite a few websites completely because of the bad quality of some of their web pages and excessive use of advertisements. But I think there needs to be some change here. I would rather prefer penalizing web pages more than web sites. The primary goal should be to give quality content to the user. If a high quality web page lies on a not so good website then users must still be able to find it quickly. What do you think?

You need to penalize those web pages that are bad but not the entire websites. I hope next Google Panda and Penguin updates do address these issues

Get rid of scams

We all have been tired of scams. Every now and then you will see banners and advertisements on the web. The titles are quite attractive ‘I made $1000 in a day’ or ‘I made $221 in 4 hours just by clicking some links’. A few months ago I used to get regular mails on different Penny Stocks. The subject was ‘XYZ stock gave 300% returns in 4 months and it was recommended by us’. I mean I have never checked if they really recommended it. But this can be nothing short of fooling people by using law of probability. They could just send random recommendations to different sets of people and if something worked for someone then create a big marketing stunt. This is plain Scam and nothing else. I think 90% of the times scams are created by deliberate spams.

Firstly I don’t know how these guys get our email ids. I had registered on a popular stock market site a few days back. If my email ID leaked through that channel then that is a real shame. I think I need to be really conscious while registering anywhere. I remember 2 years ago I had registered on an insurance website to check out different insurance deals. Later I bought a policy from another source. However even now I continue to receive insurance alerts in my mailbox. I had tried to unsubscribe but it didn’t work. I have started ignoring such junk mails now.

How can you get rid of such scams? Never register on websites that ask for a lot of details. Even if you do, you should never give your primary email address to any of these sites else you could you spammed. Clicking on attractive links must be avoided consciously. These are sincere attempts to fool you. There is always a catch and you are the targeted scapegoat. Beware of all types of Scamsters.

You must remember that nothing is free in this world and everything comes with a price tag.

Protection to senior citizens

Our society has changed enormously in the past few decades. Earlier, old people were given love, respect and treated with utmost humility and care. What has really happened to our society in the last few years? Every day whenever I open the newspaper I find news on killings of senior citizens for money. I mean that’s such a shame. Youngsters probably in their mid and early 20’s are doing such heinous crimes. Majority of the times these murders are done for anything related to money. Senior citizens are considered as easy targets due to old age weakness and the fact that most of them stay alone. It makes me think what has really gone wrong with the upbringing of our new generation?

I can still understand people without any education background committing such murders but today you can find even highly educated people involved in this act of disgrace. The question that needs to be answered is ‘Has money taken priority over human values?’ and ‘What has happened to our society and our so-called traditional values?’ Our parents always taught us the importance of hard work and patience. I feel the current mentality of some people is to earn quick bucks without any pain. They are ready to do whatever helps them to make fast money.

Our educational system needs to take serious note of this. We need to teach the new generation that money is not everything and whoever follows the path of quick money will be a major failure in life. That’s not everything. I have seen parents stress the importance of money to their children. This must stop immediately. Children must realize that money is secondary. Human values, emotions, friendships, relationships stand topmost priority. Unless each and every person realizes and implements it, these things are not going to change. The law order process must include strict directives to punish the offenders. If anyone kills a senior citizen he must be punished in such a way that no one dares to do such a shameful act.

We really need to take proper preventive and corrective actions against people offending senior citizens.

Still Unexplorable by Science

Do you believe in Clairvoyance? In the past, I had an opinion that there is nothing true in such things. How can you have an insight of the future in your present? How can you decide the future of a particular object just by looking at it? Science has not been able to provide a scientific evidence of something like telepathy and Clairvoyance. The fact is that both of them belong to the field of parapsychology which is beyond the boundaries of present science that we know. Science believes in things that it can prove for sure. Anything that drifts beyond the current scientific explorations can’t be accepted as a science.

The problem that I have here is there have been so many cases of clairvoyance that I find it difficult to imagine why science has not been able to get past this theory. Now, Clairvoyance is something where some people can view a particular object or entity and visualize the future of that object. They get some sort of an illumination in front of their eyes which tells them what’s going to happen next. I used to know 1 person who had this magical ability. In my college days, we had a student who used to depict the exact future of a person just by looking at him. Initially, we didn’t trust him. But the probability of his predictions was so high that I had to accept that he could really visualize the future.

Once he told us that the teacher who taught us Electronics is going to critically ill after 2 months. I asked him how he could be sure about such a thing. He just plainly said I just saw it happening. Before that no one ever had a hint that such a thing could be possible. Two months later we got a new Electronics professor. We inquired the reason for the change and came to know that our teacher was really serious. She had met with a train accident while traveling back from her hometown in UP. We were all stunned. I seriously believe that there was something magical about him that he could see events before they actually happened. I just hoped that he could see good things about me in the future. He could not do it always but whatever he say became a reality later.

Parapsychology is a branch from medical science. Although, conventional science doesn’t believe in such things, the occurrence of such things leads you to believe that there is definitely something like Clairvoyance and some humans really have a divine gift to see ahead of time.

How to prepare a hot cup of Tea

Have you had any morning without a cup of hot tea? Tea is soothing drink that revitalises our lives. It would be the worst day of my life if I didn’t drink any tea. I have become so addictive to this tropical hot drink that I at least drink it 3 times a day. Tea acts as my stress reliever. It helps me to concentrate on my tasks better. It just works for me and helps me to do my tasks more efficiently. Over the years, I have developed a solid taste for this drink. My tea is special because I prepare it in a special way with some special ingredients. Here’s how I prepare my cup of tea:

Let’s assume that you want to prepare 2 cups of tea. The first step is very crucial because it induces a strong flavour into your tea. Take a dry pan and add 1-2 sticks of cardamom or elaichi, 2-3 pieces of cloves, 2 pieces of cloves and some ginger. I love more ginger in my tea so I create a good amount of ginger paste. Heat your pan for 2-3 minutes so that all these ingredients blend properly and you get strong vapours coming out of this mixture with a distinctive smell.

Now take 2.5 mugs of water in your tea vessel and start heating it. Add this heated mixture to the water. Start boiling the water. After a minute add 2 teaspoons of Tea powder. Heat the vessel for 7 more minutes under a medium flame. By this time the flavours would have mixed perfectly. While you are boiling the water, also start boiling your milk. Boil it till the point that you can get the fat out completely.

Now, based on your preference, pour proper quantity of milk into your tea. Your dream cup of tea is ready for a sip. Enjoy your hot drink.

Organic ways to improve your writing

In this column, I am not going to educate anything around what topics you need to choose and how you need to market them. That’s really up to you. What I am going to focus is how to make a topic interesting to captivate your audience attention. Whenever you read your own blog you must get a feeling that you would want to read it again and again.  How can you do that? Avoid writing in a stereotype manner. My firm belief is that blogging can’t be done in an authoritative way. So get rid of that professional style of writing. I mean you just can’t write some vocabulary and sentences that look highly eligible on a professional website. If your webpage is on a business website then it might be successful in giving you some views but not on a blog specific site. The style of writing needs to be friendly by all means so that it appeals all sections of the population.

No topic can be uninteresting. It is the way you put it up. Use some real-time examples, real-life dummy scenarios and make it interesting. Have a style that just doesn’t tell what it is but how it is and why it is by giving some thought-provoking similes and personifications. Make it humorous. Always think what the audience would be interested in hearing. Every line must make the next line an exciting proposition to read. You might have a very hot topic but if you can’t make it stimulating enough then no one is going to stand by your blogs.

Let me give you an example of 2 authors who are writing a blog on the same topic –‘Stress’. Here are the first 2-3 of lines from the 1st writer: “Our lives are full of Stress. The present era is full of tensions and pressures. This leads to a lot of stress. Excessive Stress can cause a lot of life threatening problems.” The 2nd writer describes it in a different way. Here it goes:  “I got a call at 11 pm from my boss. Our consignment had still not reached the client. I had dispatched it at 6pm and it should have been there by 9. Today was the last day for fulfilling the order. My boss reminded me that the 1% penalty would start from tomorrow. There was just 1 hour to go and I didn’t know what to do. I started calling the transportation department. There was no reply. My body had started shaking and my brain was not working. That was my first big bout against stress.”

Now you decide for yourself which article will glue you the 1st one or the 2nd one. It can be neither of them but the chances of the 2nd are more because the user wants to know what the writer is going to write next.
You can really write about anything but write is such a way that it appears interesting.
